Influencers are a form of social media marketing.
It involves endorsements and product placement from influencers, people, and organisations. The bigger the following, the higher the influencer.
The biggest social media influencer at the moment is Cristiano Ronaldo. According to a recent study by Izea, Ronaldo is top with his combined social following of a staggering 362.7 million!!

Ever wondered how influencers are ranked? Well, take a peek below at the 4 types of influencers.
The Nano-Influencer
A Nano-Influencer is someone who typically has less than 10,000 followers. They closely resemble everyday people, like friends and family.
It’s easy for a consumer to trust this type of influencer as they do view them as someone who is or could be their friend. Therefore, recommendations made by nano-influencers could be considered more powerful as the majority of consumers following them will trust their opinion.
This is because they have a larger sense of transparency and authenticity within a smaller community.

The Micro-Influencer
Micro-Influencers tend to have less than 100,000 followers. These are often people known as industry experts or topic specialists within their particular niche.
Where the nano-influencers followers relate on a friendship like level, micro-influencers gain followers for their niche.
This means people follow them because the content they’re posting is of interest to them e.g. vegetarian food, cruelty-free beauty products etc.
The Macro-Influencer
Macro-influencers have between 100,000 and 1 million followers.
Macro-influencers can be celebrities, but are mostly micro-influencers who have gained a bigger following.
A macro-influencer often uses more than one platform to gain more followers, explaining why a lot of ‘YouTubers’ have macro-influencer status. Being a macro-influencer often means that being an influencer is your full time job.

The Mega-Influencer
Mega-influencers have more than 1 million followers and are mostly celebrities or major public figures.
They have gained a mass number of followers for being famous not only on Social Media, but to the outside world such as musicians, actors and even Reality TV Stars.
This is where you have made the highest level of influence. A massive audience and emotional connection you can monetise with endorsements and sponsorships etc.
